Leopards maul the Warriors

Essex & Herts Leopards 117 (31,56,85)
West Herts Warriors 75 (19,40,57)

Leopards opened their pre-season programme in style with a comfortable victory against neighbours West Herts. In a game played with 12 minute, rather than 10, quarters, the Big Cats led from tip to buzzer.

Lithuanian trailist Tomas Kersis led the Big Cats scoring, pouring in 14 third quarter points on his way to a 25 point haul. However the scoring was spread around the Leopards team, with ten of the 11 man roster getting on the scoresheet, and five players finishing in double figures.

Steve Ounjimi (pictured) opened the scoring for the Big Cats before seven straight Troy Selvey points gave the home side a 9-2 lead.Selvey finished the first period with ten points, and with new power forward Errol Seaman adding eight, Jon Burnell's team reached the first break with a 12 point lead.

The home side steadily built their lead during the second period, with
Laurent Irish adding 11 and Matt Eames six, as Leopards reached half-time with a 56-40 lead.

Kersis opened the second half with a three-pointer, and went on to drain two more in a dominant performance. His fellow trailist Skye Buck and Selvey added four each as Leopards went into the final break with a massive 28 point lead.

Any thoughts that Leopards would take things easy in the final quarter were quickly dispelled as they went on a 20-2 run in the first eight minutes of period to take the lead to the 40-point mark, and although the Big Cats will face much tougher tests this season, the morale-boosting win should provide a big boost for the new-look Leopards.
