Leopards’ junior centre Nathan Wilson will travel on Thursday (June 21) to Syracuse to play in the Big Orange Camp.
Royston-based Nathan Wilson will travel to New York States for a ten day trip which will see him play at one of the most prestigious camps for school-age players in the United States. Wilson, 17, won the trip at last summer Ware Basketball Camp as he was voted by the camp’s coaches as the most valuable player out of 150 participants. Syracuse are one of the top teams in the American college system – which provides most of the players for the NBA. Nicknamed, “The Orange”, they won the National Championship in 2003 and Wilson is looking forward to the experience: “I can’t wait to go, it should be a really good experience. Hopefully if things work out they may want me to play for them” England under-18 international Wilson made a couple of appearances for Leopards first team last season as well as playing in their summer league team, and he is expected to feature regularly for them during the forthcoming campaign. Ware Camp director Roy Birch predicts a bright future for the 6’ 9” centre: “Nathan’s got tremendous potential, and if he plays his cards right he could get a scholarship, I know their coach is very interested.” San Jose State University are also believed to be interested in Wilson, and they will have the chance to look at him when they travel to Wodson Park on Saturday August 18 to play the Leopards. There are still a few places left on the Ware Basketball Camp, which is staged at Wodson Park during the week commencing July 23, further details on www.networkhoops.co.uk |
