Leopards will look to make it ten straight wins against West Anglia Fury when the pair meet at Wodson Park on Saturday evening, tip-off 8pm. The sides have met on nine occasions in various competitions over the last three seasons, and the Big Cats have a perfect record against James Bamfield’s side. The closest game came at the start of this season when Leopards survived a late comeback from the visitors to win 81-79, with Gareth Laws leading the Big Cats with 18 points. Fury’s second visit to Wodson Park this season saw a much stronger performance from the Big Cats as they opened the EBL Division One campaign with a 103-75 victory. Laws again proved to be a thorn in Fury’s side with 22 points, a total emulated by Stix Bright. Saturday’s game is in the Braintree Sports Trophy, and the game is a must-win one for the Big Cats following their loss at USAF Mildenhall Marauders. With the game being the last of 2007 for Jon Burnell’s team, Leopards will have Pulse cheerleaders in action at Wodson Park as well as other Christmas treats. Coach Burnell was delighted with Saturday’s victory at Sheffield which continued their best ever start to a league season: “It’s not an easy place to win, they’ve got two Americans and Andre Rankine can score points at will, he’s certainly as good as an import, and they’ve added a couple of players. They haven’t got a great record, but they’ve played all of the top teams. “We were without Carl Latham-Henry which is a massive loss as he’s our starting point guard and he’s worth 20 points a game. “But Lee McCarthy was massive both defensively and offensively. The two kids, Fola [Adeleke] and Lucas [Volskis] both stepped up. Fola’s defence was exceptional, and when he went inside they couldn’t contain him. “Matt Eames wasn’t fit, but he helped us out and allowed us to give Lee some rest. It was a good performance all-round, and we’ll look to finish the year on a high when we play Fury on Saturday.” |
