Arrows next up at Wodson

Leopards return to Wodson Park on Sunday when Sheffield Arrows are the visitors, tip-off 4pm. It's another key game for Jon Burnell’s side, with Arrows sitting in sixth spot and still looking for home court advantage in the play-offs.

It's the first of two successive Sunday games against the Arrows, with both side still looking for fourth spot and a home play-off spot. Having lost at Sheffield in the play-off quarter-finals in each of the last two seasons, a home game in the play-offs would obviously be a big boost for the Big Cats.

Although Leopards have yet to meet the Arrows in the league this season, they did travel to Sheffield for a trophy group stage game in January, and a poor performance saw our chances of qualifying for the semi-finals ended with a 95-83 loss.

Coach Burnell knows that his side will need a better performance than that game if they are to consolidate their fourth place in the EBL Division One table:

“We went up there and knew exactly where their threat lay, and that we would have to take care of their three main players, Rankine, Deas and McFarlane, but we failed to stop them. McFarland scored nearly 40 points on us, and Deas was a rebounding machine. It was Jerrid Campbell’s first game, and hopefully he will be a bit more dominant, and we can contain them inside. They are vying with us for fourth spot, and it’s a must-win game."

Burnell was pleased with his side’s performance on Saturday as they defeated local rivals West Herts Warriors 90-82:

“I thought we played satisfactorily well” he said. “They are a decent team and they have a lot of players who are good at this level. Lee McCarthy and Pierre Henry-Fontaine have both been in the BBL recently, and Pierre’s probably better than either of their Americans. Calvin [Fowler] did well for us, and James [Nicholson] had a good game despite being unwell. He picked up some of the slack with Duncan missing, I used him a lot at shooting guard and it worked well. We got good minutes out of the seven main players, and having Tom [Christie] was a bonus as he did well when we needed him.”
