Baker ready for American test

As his side prepare to face Team USA Select at the Brentwood Centre on Sunday (4pm), coach Thomas Baker is ready for the start of the 2019/20 season.
“Playing USA Select is always quite nostalgic” he said. “Every season they bring over tough teams to face off against strong British teams. For me it signifies the start of a new season whenever a USA select games comes about.
“I will be looking for us to put some of our early pre season work into action as well as looking to how we are coming together. After a great first season back in Division One last year I am excited to see how we will do this year.”
Team USA Select are a touring organisation who bring a large squad of players to Europe looking for pro jobs, and the majority of their three week stay sees they fielding two teams each day against British opposition.
The Americans competed in last season’s Essex Classic at the Brentwood Centre, beating Leopards 68-59 on their way to the runners-ups spot in the four-team tournament, with eventual BBL champions London Lions lifting the trophy.
Team USA have been visiting Britain for more than 15 years, with the Big Cats facing them regularly as well as at Crystal Palace, Capital City Academy, University of East London and a couple of training venues.
There are a few places left on the Leopards pre-game coaching session where youngsters have the chance to be coached by Baker and other players from the Big Cats. Places and game tickets can be booked through this website.
